Meet Laurence Griffiths: The Founder Behind INNEXA
Hello, and welcome to the INNEXA blog! I’m Laurence Griffiths, the founder of INNEXA—a venture driven by a deep passion for engineering and innovation. INNEXA was born from the belief that by connecting emerging technologies with the industries that need them, we can make a significant impact.
A Bit About My Journey and Skills
Before founding INNEXA, I completed a PhD in reduced order modeling at the University of Bristol and then spent over 12 years in high-performance motorsport, including a decade in Formula One.
During my time in motorsport, I had the opportunity to work on championship-winning WEC and WTCC cars before moving into Formula One. Entering motorsport early in my career allowed me to collaborate with some incredibly talented individuals, and by the time I left F1, I had led both the CFD correlation and CFD process functions for a Formula One team.
On the correlation side, I focused on refining and improving simulations, diagnosing miscorrelations, and reducing overall costs through effective tuning programs. From a process standpoint, I led the implementation of robust, data-driven methodologies to ensure high-performance simulations that were both reliable and cost-effective.
From a management perspective, I’m a strong advocate for creating psychologically safe workplaces—fostering environments where engineers feel empowered to brainstorm, collaborate, and speak up. Years of implementing and refining SCRUM have complemented this culture, helping to promote transparency, openness, and clarity across projects.
All in all, my time in Formula One, surrounded by incredibly talented people, was immensely rewarding. I aim to bring the determination, drive, and excellence from motorsport and apply it in new ways—ways that could benefit a broader range of industries, with a particular focus on engineering and education.
That’s how INNEXA came to life—a place where I can bring innovative solutions to the engineering challenges we face today, with a particular focus on leveraging emerging technologies like machine learning and artificial intelligence.
INNEXA’s Vision for the Future
As we move through 2024 and early 2025, Innexa is focused on two key vision statements:
Connecting Early Research in ML to Engineering
One of our core goals is to create pipelines that accelerate the deployment of early-stage machine learning algorithms into industry. Traditionally, this has been the domain of large industry powerhouses, but at INNEXA, we believe open-source solutions can provide a viable alternative. By fostering large-scale collaboration between researchers and industry, we aim to make cutting-edge technology more accessible and impactful.
Connecting AI to Neurodiverse Educational Content
The recent advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs) have opened up new possibilities for creating student-centric educational content. At INNEXA, we see a unique opportunity to leverage AI to better serve individuals with diverse educational needs. Much of today’s educational content, especially in exam preparation, is designed for the 'typical' student. But in reality, how many of us fit that mold? Our vision is to challenge this norm, using AI to develop content that caters to a broader range of learning styles.
Looking Ahead
INNEXA is currently a one-person operation (that’s me!), which allows for a very hands-on, personalized approach. I’m deeply committed to quality, collaboration, and continuous learning. As INNEXA grows, I’m excited to see how we can push the boundaries of what’s possible in engineering and education.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about INNEXA and my journey. I’m looking forward to what lies ahead and am always open to connecting with fellow engineers, educators, and innovators who share our vision.
Best regards, Laurence Griffiths Founder, INNEXA
